The Department of Agriculture Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) and a national scientist, on Thursday, joined the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in its call against China’s reclamation activities in the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea.

In a press conference titled “The Destruction of Marine Resources in the West Philippine Sea,” DA-BFAR, and University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute Professor Emeritus and National Scientist Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez presented a comprehensive study on the damage inflicted to marine biodiversity and economic productivity by China’s increased militarization in the region.

Above the South China Sea (CNN) – The Chinese navy issued warnings eight times as a U.S. surveillance plane on Wednesday swooped over islands that Beijing is using to extend its zone of influence.

The series of man-made islands and the massive Chinese military build-up on them have alarmed the Pentagon, which is carrying out the surveillance flights in order to make clear the U.S. does not recognize China’s territorial claims. The militarized islands have also alarmed America’s regional allies.

China’s newest Public Enemy No. 1 is no longer exiled human rights activist Chen Guancheng but Loida Nicolas-Lewis, the New York-based national chair of the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG).

After Lewis held a press conference in Manila on July 14 to announce the worldwide campaign to “Boycott Made in China Products,” China’s government-controlled media fired back with a newscast calling on the Chinese people to boycott a chain of convenience stores in China believed to be owned by Lewis.
